Why has Roy left Coronation Street?

CORONATION Street fans were left shocked to see Roy Cropper made an emotional exit out of the cobbles.

It is currently unknown if Roy will be leaving for good so viewers will just have to keep watching to see.

Why has Roy left Coronation Street?

Roy was struggling to come to terms with the fact that the gun Abi Franklin (played by Sally Carman) obtained to shoot Corey Brent (played by Maximus Evans) was the very same weapon which was used to kill Natasha Blakeman (played by Rachel Leskovac).

Abi was stopped from putting a bullet in Corey on Wednesday (November 24) night episode by cafe owner Roy, who ended up covering for her when the police questioned about the incident.

As viewers know, the gun ended up in the hands of Harvey Gaskell (played by Will Mellor), who is intending on killing Leanne Battersby (played by Jane Danson), but shot Natasha in a case of mistaken identity.

Roy was shocked to learn from DS Abney that there was a connection between the two investigations, and despite covering for Abi once more, he felt he was unable to live with the guilt.

He then made a huge decision to the street in which he called home for nearly three decades, signing over all he owns to niece Nina Lucas (played by Mollie Gallagher).

Nina was distraught to learn that her uncle was leaving the cobbles. And gave him two offerings to try and convince him to stay.

She ended up gathering his nearest, including Fiz Stape (played by Jennie McAlpine), Cathy Matthews (played by Melanie Hill) and Carla Connor (played by Alison King), Nina hoped their stories of how Roy had helped them over the years would be enough for him to change his decision.

However, it was not and Roy was adamant that he could not stay in Weatherfield.

“This is my only hope of peace,” he told Nina. “[To] go away and atone for what I’ve done.”

Nina broke down into tears, and begged Roy one last time. “Please don’t do this to me Roy!,” she exclaimed. “You’re the one person in the world who I trust, and I love you!”

Roy refused to reconsider, telling Nina he was sorry, before exiting his cafe into a taxi.
