ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Gio Urshela was placed on the COVID injury list due to side effects from the vaccination, the Yankees announced Friday.

The third baseman was initially in the lineup, but was scratched and replaced by Tyler Wade.

Many members of the Yankees’ traveling party — players, coaches and staff — were vaccinated Wednesday, both before and after the game.

Mike Ford, who was already on the taxi squad and with the team for their series against the Rays at Tropicana Field, was officially recalled from the alternate site.
