Recent episodes of the hit ITV soap Coronation Street have shown a heartbroken Ed (played by Trevor Michael Georges) discover his brother Ronnie (Vinta Morgan) could be the father of his son Michael Bailey (Ryan Russell). Understandably devastated, Ed confronted Aggie, who is currently away from the cobbles.

The couple will have more tearful conversations coming up, with scenes hinting towards their marriage being illicit – but what will this mean for the family?

Last month, Coronation Street fans were told Ronnie was going to arrive and it wasn’t long before he was stirring up trouble.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, the newcomer explained why he was in Weatherfield and whether he had a motive against his family.

Since then, lots of revelations have come to light, with Ronnie’s estranged wife, Kat, showing up.

After he refused her pleas to come home, Kat accused Ronnie of running away to be with Aggie, but he was quick to explain he has come to Coronation Street to find out whether his nephew, Michael, is his son.

During a conversation in Friday’s episode, the Ed and Aggie were seen talking about their problems and the start of their marriage.

Ed remarked: “I was runner up, certainly better than nothing,” to which Aggie replied: “Okay, I was selfish. I knew we’d have a good life together and I couldn’t risk jeopardising that by telling you what happened with Ronnie.”

Furious, Ed shouted: “You made a fool of me – you tricked me into marrying you!”

Could this mean the couple’s marriage have been invalid? With the recent bombshell that Aggie cheated on her husband with Ronnie, could he have been the person she was truly in love with all along, but she married Ed for convenience?

Aggie later explained: “Our married life got off to a good start, you can’t argue with that. We loved being parents.

“It was good, your business was going great, and then, the gambling.”

Things turned frosty as they began to discuss their issues with Ed asking why she’d bring up his gambling.

Aggie continued: “Gambling, financial hardship – everything we worked so hard for.”

Ed got frustrated as Aggie turned on him but she later insisted that Ed is the one she wanted to raise her kids with, and the one she wanted to marry.

“I’d marry you again tomorrow,” she cried, trying to convince her husband of her love for him.

She added: “Despite everything we’ve been through, we’ve got a strong marriage, because of the love we share. We have dealt with everything that has been thrown at us.”

After this, Ed got a frantic call from Michael, who was worried about the baby, who had become ill. Ed instructed Michael not to worry, telling him he’d be by his side as soon as possible.

With the family in the midst of so much chaos and secrets spilling out, will it be revealed that the couples’ marriage is based on lies?

And how would their relationship survive? The couple certainly have some issues to work out, but it seems it may take some fixing.

Furthermore, Michael is currently unaware that Ed may not be his father. If he finds out, this is sure to add to the growing drama the family are in the middle of.

With his daughter also becoming unwell, can the family put their troubles aside?
