Emmerdale has revealed a first look at the aftermath of Rishi Sharma’s (Bhasker Patel) tragic death, as son Jai (Chris Bisson) finds his body at the bottom of the stairs.
The ITV soap aired a major twist on Thursday (July 27), as Rishi tragically died shortly after getting ready for Jai’s wedding to Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy).
Despite the animosity between he and Rishi, who fell out over the truth about the former’s adoption, Jai decided that he wanted his dad at the wedding.
Rishi, however, failed to show up, with everyone believing that he’d decided to sit the ceremony out following a heated showdown with his son.
But in reality, Rishi had taken a tragic tumble down the stairs at Holdgate, losing his life in the process, leaving the nation completely and utterly heartbroken as a result.
We’re not crying, we promise.
If you’re keen for a look at what’s to come then you’re in luck as Emmerdale has given us a first look at the aftermath of the tragic scenes, which airs on Friday (July 28).
Pictures for the episode in question see Rishi lying motionless at the bottom of the stairs as Jai checks in on his dad, wanting to make things right, only to find out that it’s too late to do so.
‘Jai’s speech at the reception was really about his dad and how he wanted things to be right,’ actor Chris Bisson told Metro.co.uk.
‘How life is too short and how we should all make the most of it and enjoy what we have. So, the next day of course he’s going to be very very upset on discovering his father.
‘Not just the sadness of losing his dad but the circumstances. Because they hadn’t had a chance to resolve things.
‘I think [the regret] is going to make things harder for him. He will ruminate on it. It’s not something that just disappears and we do come back to this regret in future scripts. We reflect on the state of their relationship at the time of his passing.’
Chris, who has played Jai since 2011, said that he thinks it’s important for Emmerdale to show shock outcomes such as this one, adding that it would be ‘nice’ if audiences could ‘take something away’ from it.
‘Maybe resolve a difference that they have, before it’s too late,’ he said. ‘It would be nice to think the show could have a positive effect. Life really is too short.’
The soap star also discussed Bhasker’s exit, revealing that everyone at Emmerdale really misses him.

‘It does feel very strange without him,’ said Chris. ‘Every time I walk past what was his dressing room I think about popping my head in to see how he’s doing. So it is strange when he isn’t there.
‘Twelve years is a long time. And over the years we’ve had some great stories and have had a lot of fun too. Bhasker and I got on really well personally so that makes a big difference and the loss even greater – we all miss him in the building.’
Emmerdale continues Friday July 28 at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
