The Masked Singer judges speculate on Blob’s identity

The Masked Singer viewers saw the eight remaining stars return to the stage in the latest instalment of the most bizarre programme on TV last weekend. Of course, it was time for another famous face to be unveiled and this time it was Bush Baby’s turn to say goodbye – being unmasked as actor John Thomson. However, with seven stars still left in the running to win, John has admitted he is certain Blob is Lenny Henry, admitting earlier this week: “Lenny, I can hear in the singing!”

The ITV show has brought in millions of fans who have all become sleuths in front of their TV sets. 

As the show draws closer to its conclusion, guesses as to who the remaining stars may be are continuing to swirl. 

Last week’s eliminated star Bush Baby left everyone stumped after the panel had no idea John was behind the mask.

But one person John is certain of is Blob, confirming he believes it is comedian Lenny Henry.

Speaking to Express.co.uk and other press, John has opened up on who he thinks some his fellow contestants might be. 

He has his doubts about some, beginning: “Two I don’t know, genuinely, are Harlequin and Viking. I don’t know who they are, I don’t know. 

“I know who Blob is though,” he teased. “It’s Lenny Henry!”

John went on to explain how he could hear Lenny’s voice behind the distinct costume and reflected on trying to disguise his own vocals.

He continued: “When I heard myself sing Delilah, I thought ‘Oh no, oh God. I can hear me so clearly in the singing!’

“But then when I did A Little Less Conversation, I did an Elvis impersonation,” he said, which meant he managed to hide under the disguise for a bit longer. 

Of his final song, John explained: “Yeah, Please Release Me was kind of, you could still hear me a bit. 

“That’s the thing; it’s very hard to sing in another voice. I mean, you don’t know, some of these singers might be singing in a voice they don’t normally sing in – that’d be amazing!”

Repeating his guess of Lenny, he added: “Lenny I can hear in the singing… I think the bookies is 1/1!”

But is John right? Bookmakers Betfair currently has Lenny at 1/2 odds, making him favourite to be unveiled underneath Blob.

Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said: “Masked Singer fans seem more confident than ever of the identity of the wacky Blob, with Lenny Henry’s distinctive voice convincing viewers and punters alike.

“So much so that he is a short 1/2 favourite, the same price as Sheridan Smith is to be Sausage.”

Fans are sure previous clues link the star to the wacky character. 

For example, last weekend saw Blob sing Hotel Room Service by Pitbull after Joel Dommett admitted the tunes all had clues connected to the celebrities. 

This could be a reference to the fact Lenny is known for starring in adverts for the well-known hotel chain, Premier Inn. 

But who will become the next star to have to reveal their identity on the popular Saturday night show?

The Masked Singer airs Saturdays at 7pm on ITV.
