Harvey Weinstein Hospitalized for Chest Pains After Guilty Verdict

The disgraced movie mogul, who was supposed to be transferred to the jail on Rikers Island, has been taken to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan after complaining of chest pains.

AceShowbiz -Harvey Weinstein has been rushed to hospital, hours after jury found him guilty of third-degree rape and criminal sexual acts in the first degree. The 67-year-old was taken to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan on Monday, February 24 after complaining of chest pains, according to his representative.

The former movie producer was supposed to be transferred to the jail on Rikers Island, where he will await his sentencing on March 11. According to Variety, while Bellevue Hospital is primarily a psychiatric hospital, it also serves as a hospital for jail inmates.

On Monday evening, Weinstein’s attorney Rotunno said during an interview with Fox News that her client would be receiving medical care at whichever prison facility he ends up in, since he was remanded. She mentioned that he was having heart palpitations on Monday, though she did not reveal that he was admitted to the hospital with chest pains.

Weinstein had been free on $2 million bond prior to the Monday conviction, but Justice James Burke ordered him held in jail until his sentencing. His attorney Donna Rotunno appealed to the judge to allow his remain free, reasoning that he recently had unsuccessful back surgery and requires shots in order to keep from going blind. The judge wouldn’t budge though and remanded him to Rikers. He was led away from the courtroom in handcuffs after the verdict was announced.

Although Weinstein was convicted of two charges, he was acquitted on two other counts of predatory sexual assault, and one of first-degree rape as jurors were unable to reach a unanimous verdict on those accusations. He faces five to 29 years in prison.

Rose McGowan and Mira Sorvino, who had both been part of the 2017 exposes in which Weinstein was first accused of being a serial sexual predator, were rejoiced over his sex assault conviction. “Today because of the brave women who bared their deepest hurt for the world to see, he is in Riker’s Island (prison),” said “Charmed” alum McGowan. “For once, he won’t be sitting comfortably. For once, he will know what it is like to have power wrapped around his neck.”

Sorvino added, “Harvey Weinstein has harmed many of our lives, even in our nightmares, long after he initially did what he did to each one of us. We have finally taken that power back. And we have exposed his evil and others like him, the true ugliness. He will rot in jail as he deserves and we will begin to have some closure.”
